I offer 18 years of educational experience that span across a variety of settings to include classroom instructor, basketball and football coach, athletic director and principal. I taught at Lowndes Middle School, Lee High School in Montgomery, and Central High School as a Physical Education teacher for a period of thirteen years. I also coached boys’ basketball and football. I broadened the scope of my duties and later served in the capacity as Athletic Director at Central High School for six years. My career path extended beyond the classroom which led me to become the Assistant Principal at Central High School for one year. After coaching for fifteen years, I decided to pursue my goal at the administrative level, and I accepted the position of principal at Central High School. My role as principal at Central High School after three years transitioned to Lowndes Middle School. Currently, I am in my second year at Lowndes Middle as principal while serving as the District Athletic Director for Lowndes County.
I am a proud native of Lowndes County where I graduated from The Calhoun High School. I am honored to work in the community where I was raised as an educator. It has been my desire to set the expectation for our children to be a beacon of light that shines brightly amongst other school districts. It has always been my belief that hard work pays off. As such, my drive for success is reflected in my accomplishments which allowed me to lead the boys’ basketball team to five state final appearances to include our first State Basketball Championship title at Central High School and Runner-up State Basketball title. I was also able to reinstate the boy's baseball and girls’ softball teams at Central High School after several years of being dormant. Under my direction, our girls’ softball team made an appearance to regional tournament play for 3 consecutive years. Furthermore, during my tenure at Central, we were the 3-time consecutive recipient of the Alabama Power at Play grant which helped to increase student participation in sports. Additionally, my goal to revitalize the football program at Lowndes Middle School was fulfilled this year with the help of a great volunteer team. I am privileged to say while working in Lowndes County, I also received recognition for Principal of the Quarter, the Good Samaritans Sportsmanship Award, and Metro Coach of the Year. In pursuit of my goals, I will always strive to move our school system forward to be a positive spotlight for success for our student athletes.
I am an active member at Beulah Baptist Church in Montgomery where I serve on the Board of Trustees, president of the Beulah Laymen, and co-teach the Intermediate Sunday School class with my wife, Kimberly Baker.
In addition to my professional duties, I also work in the following capacities:
Referee for the Alabama High School Athletic Association (received Rookie of the Year Award from the Central Alabama Basketball Officials). Officiate the YMCA youth and men’s basketball program. Assistant Coach for the Capital City Clippers AAU basketball team.
