Text Box: After having served 24 years of active duty in the United Sates Navy, Robert A. Lane was elected to the Lowndes County Board of Education in November, 1983.  During his 24 year tenure on the board, Mr. Lane has been a staunch supporter of public education in Lowndes County, Alabama and throughout the nation. He has served the board in numerous capacities including President and Vice-president for more than 7 times.   
Mr. Lane is very active in leadership at the state level as evidenced by having served as District 2 Director for the Alabama Association of Schools Boards (AASB) 1989-1993, Second Vice President, 1993-1995, First Vice President 1995-1997, President 1997-1999 and President of the AASB Board of Directors in 2002. At the national level, Mr. Lane served as a member of the National School Boards, Association on the Board of Directors representing the Southern Region from 1999-2007.  In addition, He also serves on a myriad of local, state and national committees where he continues his fight to improve public education. As a NSBA  Director, he was Liaison to Alabama, Mississippi and Texas. His committee memberships include, but are not limited to, Lowndes County Economic Development Committee, Lowndes Historic Trail Planning Committee, Small Farmers Marketing Education Association, Tuskegee University Extension Service Steering Committee, Mid-South Resource Conservation  and Development Council, Montgomery Job Corps Community Relations Committee, Alabama Blue Ribbon Schools Selection Committee, Alabama Lieutenant Governor's Task Force on School Violence, AASB Legislative Committee, NSBA Resolutions Committee, NSBA By-Laws Committee.  
Mr. Lane was the Officer Manager for Congressman Earl F. Hilliard who represented the 7th District of Alabama in the United States Congress. He was also employed with Alabama State University. He and his wife are the proud parents of three and the grandparents of seven.

Text Box: Reverend Ben Davis is a native of Lowndes County and graduated from the district's historic "The Calhoun School" in 1962. He attended the Trenholm Technical College and earned a certificate in Business and Office Education in 1972 and has completed 2 1/2 years of course work at Alabama Christian College.  
He was elected to The Lowndes County Board of Education in 1990 and currently serves the school board as Vice President. 
Mr. Davis was employed with K-Mart for 30 years and retired as an Operations Manager. He is a member of the First Baptist Church in Whitehall, Alabama and serves as Pastor of the Rockwest Baptist Church in Butler County, Alabama.  
He is a member of the Adoptive Parent Association. He also served in the United States Army having earned a Purple Heart in the Viet Nam War.

Text Box: Steve Foster, a lifetime resident of Fort Deposit, Alabama, was initially elected to the Lowndes County Board of Education in 1992.  He is an active member of the community and has been employed in the banking industry for a number of years.  Mr. Foster has served President and as Vice-President for numerous terms.   
He earned the Associates of Arts Degree in Business from Alabama Christian College in 1978, the B.S. Degree in Government and Business and the Masters in Public Administration from Auburn University Montgomery in 1980 and 1985, respectively. He has completed substantial coursework toward the Doctorate of Public Administration from The University of Alabama.  
He holds membership with the Fort Deposit Chamber of Commerce where he served as President for five years, Lowndes County Cattlemen's Association, Lowndes County Farmers Federation, Alabama Association of School Boards, Alabama Association of Governmental Organizations.  He has served as District 2 Director of the Alabama Association of School Boards and was elected to be its Vice-President in December, 2007.  In addition he is an elected member of the Lowndes County Democratic Executive Committee.     
Mr. Foster is a member of the Fort Deposit Church of Christ.  He and his wife, Nancy have two children.

Text Box: Reverend Robert James Grant has served on the Lowndes County Board of Education since 1991. He is a native of Lowndes County and graduated from Central High School. Mr. Grant attended Trenholm State Technical College where he received the Associates Degree in Accounting in 1979.  He is currently enrolled in Sure Foundation Theological Institute's Associate Program.  
As a membership of the Lowndes County Board of Education, he received recognition for Level 3 of the Alabama Association of School Boards' Boardmanship Program.  Reverend Grant is employed with Bell Enterprises, Inc. as manager.  
Reverend Grant and his wife Melody have four children. Reverend Grant is a Baptist minister and enjoys membership in Prince Hall Masonic Lodge, Mount Horeb # 82.
 

 

                                   

                              

                                  Mrs. Annie C. Hunter

Text Box: Mrs. Annie C. Hunter, a resident of Mt. Willing, Alabama, was appointed to the Lowndes County Board of Education in 1992, to complete the unexpired term of her husband, George, Sr.  She has since been elected to two terms, most recently unopposed.   
Prior to being elected to the board, she served the district as a school teacher for 32 1/2 years.  She graduated from Selma  University in 1949 and earned the B.S. Degree in Social Studies and Fine Arts from Alabama State University in 1952. Mrs. Hunter also attended Auburn University at Montgomery.  In 1986, she received a retirement recognition award from the Lowndes County Education Association, the Alabama Association of Schools Boards Academy Master Level Award, AASB All-State Board Award in 1999, the Lowndes County Middle School Award in 1996, Central High School Award in 2001 and a proclamation from the Superintendent for exemplary service to the public schools in Lowndes County in 2003. Mrs. Hunter is a member of the Morning Glory Chapter #707 Order of Eastern Stars, Lowndes County Retired Teachers Association, Lowndes County Water Authority, the Antioch Baptist Church.  In addition, she is an honorary member of the Snow Hill Christian Church.
