The Annual GALA Banquet is held to recognize and honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the school sytem during the 2015-2016 school year. The event was held on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at Central High School. In addition, partnering with the Lowndes County Education Association, tribute was also paid to a special group of individuals retiring at the end of the school year. Lowndes County Board of Education and the school system are extremely grateful for their exemplary service, commitment, and dedication to LCPS.
LOWNDES COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS-2016 Partner in Education Recipients
Lowndes County District Court Judge Adrian Johnson and Dr. James Mitchell, president of Wallace Community College, Selma, were recognized as the 2016 Partners in Education.
Judge Johnson worked with the county commission to secure $25,000 for the district's Summer Bridge Enrichment Program as well as for efforts in working with the district's truancy program.
Dr. Mitchell was recognized for helping to provide a welding instructor at no cost to the district and for working with the district to provide opportunities for students to participate in the dual enrollment program. Through participation in the dual enrollment program, students can earn high school and college credits simultaneously.
