Notice of Special Education Records Destruction

 

By the Lowndes County Public Schools

 

 

 

 

 

In compliance with the Individual’s with Disabilities in Education Act (IDEA), The Alabama Department of Education, and the Lowndes County Public Schools System’s local procedures regarding destruction of data collected, maintained or used in the provision of a free and appropriate public education of students with disabilities in the Lowndes County Schools, the Special Education Department announces it’s intention to destroy special education records during the month of July 2013.

 

 

 

Records on students who were enrolled in a special education program in the Lowndes County Public Schools who attended during the 2007- 2008 school year are no longer needed for educational purposes.

 

 

 

The student or parent may need these records for Social Security or other reasons. If you,

 

as a former special education student or a parent of a former special education student, wish to obtain these records prior to destruction, you should contact the Special Education Records Department, Lowndes County Board of Education, 80 Commerce Street South , Hayneville, Alabama. Positive identification will be required before the records can be released to the individual.

CHILD FIND

 

What is Child Find?

Child Find is a statewide effort by the State Department of Education and the Department of Rehabilitation Services to locate, identify, and evaluate children with disabilities from birth to age 21.

How Does Child Find Work?

Early Intervention and Special Education Services work closely with community service agencies, parents, and local school systems to locate children with disabilities.  A toll free number is provided for parents or other persons interested in information about referring a child from birth to age 21.

Why is Child Find Important?

Child Find helps the child, the family, and the provider to plan appropriate services and link families to services for students meeting eligibility requirements in the following disability areas:

1.  Autism

2.  Deaf-Blindness

3.  Developmentally Delayed

4.  Emotional Disturbance

5.  Hearing Impairment

6.  Intellectual Disabilities

7.  Multiple Disabilities

8.  Orthopedic Impairment

9.  Other Health Impairment

10.  Specific Learning Disabilities

11.  Speech and Language Impairment

12.  Traumatic Brain Injury

13.  Visual Impairment
